ASABE Revises Standards for Drawbar Pins /news/manufacturing/asabe-revises-standards-for-drawbar-pins/ Wed, 21 Aug 2024 19:37:48 +0000 /?p=29182 The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) has revised ANSI/ASABE S625.2 AUG2024 Drawbar Pin Dimensions and Requirements.

The most significant change to the standard is the addition of a new category for a drawbar pin, a 25-mm (1-inch) diameter pin for special applications. Additionally, the endurance and impact strength tests were updated to a straight pull. Finally, the definitions for drawbar pin keeper and drawbar pin secondary keeper were improved to match the retention method used by drawbar pins on the market.

ASABE Develops Standard for Specialty Crop Equipment /news/asabe-develops-standard-for-specialty-crop-equipment/ Mon, 22 Apr 2024 15:30:50 +0000 /?p=27917 The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) has initiated the development of a new standard for specialty crop equipment. S664, Direct to Consumption Specialty Crop Equipment Sanitary Design Requirements, will establish industry consensus sanitary design standards for specialty crop equipment that is used in direct-to-consumer specialty crop production.

This work began when FDA approached the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) to learn more about sanitary design of equipment that is used in the production of specialty crops. AEM worked with FDA to share information on the current state of the industry and understand some of the concerns that they had. In doing so equipment manufactures decided to be proactive in their approach and work with ASABE to help establish industry standards around sanitation for what is an emerging equipment market.

ASABE is recognized worldwide as a standards-developing organization for food, agricultural, and biological systems, with more than 280 standards currently in publication. Conformance to ASABE standards is voluntary, except where required by state, provincial, or other governmental requirements, and the documents are developed by consensus in accordance with procedures approved by the American National Standards Institute.

For information on this or any other ASABE standard, contact Scott Cedarquist at 269-932-7031, cedarq@asabe.org. A current listing of all ASABE standards projects can be found on the ASABE web site at .

ASABE Standards – Your Input is Needed! /news/asabe-standards-your-input-is-needed/ Mon, 24 Jul 2023 19:48:03 +0000 /?p=24247 The following ASABE Standard development information is important and may affect some FEMA member manufacturers’ implements.

  • ANSI/ASABE S625.1: Drawbar Pin Dimensions and Requirements for Towing Machine with Clevis: The 1鈥 hitch pins have been tested.  The John Deere replacement (after-market) 1鈥 pin has passed the test.  FEMA members consider testing their pins or comparing them to the John Deere pin. This standard revision will classify the 1鈥 pin as a PA and has its own straight horizontal pull test requirements. FEMA members should review the Draft Standard ASABE S625.1.
  • Standard ISO wxyz-2.230403.WD.3PT Hitch Height: Eric Smith with John Deere is developing a standard for the height range for input PTO shaft connection location for 3-Point hitch for implements. The PTO connection dimensions are being proposed and should be reviewed by implement manufacturers to ensure compliance or request changes to the proposed dimensions.  The major concerns are for short coupled 3-point hitch implements with short PTO drivelines, such as, 3-point hitch rotary tillers and sprayers.  FEMA members should review the Draft Standard ISO wxyz-2.230403.WD.3PT Hitch Height. For information concerning the reasons for the need for the PTO Implement input connection height standard, please see the Word document prepared by Eric Smith

This is an opportunity for FEMA members to review and contribute to a critical standard during the development phase. If you have any questions or concerns about these standards or the height explanation, please contact John Fisher at lajrfisher@gmail.com or Brett Cohen at bcohen@alamo-group.com.
