Deere Acquires GUSS /news/manufacturing/deere-acquires-guss/ Fri, 05 Sep 2025 20:38:10 +0000 /?p=32934 John Deere has acquired GUSS Automation, a high-value crop autonomy company. John Deere and GUSS have collaborated on a joint venture since 2022.

GUSS Electric Sprayer

GUSS, founded by Dave Crinklaw in 2018, manufactures autonomous sprayers. These sprayers, supervised by a single operator, use GPS, LiDAR and proprietary software to navigate through orchards and vineyards to precisely spray the crops. A single operator can manage up to eight machines at once.

John Deere says more than 250 GUSS machines are deployed globally and have sprayed up to 2.6 million acres for more than 500,000 hours.

Julien Le Vely, director of production systems in high-value and small-acre crops at John Deere, says that while the company has its initial roots in almond orchards, GUSS has been deployed in pistachio, apple and citrus orchards as well as vineyards.

“It’s an opportunity for us to grow further going forward, whether it’s in North America or in Europe or in Australia or in Argentina,” he says of the acquisition. “One of the things that the deal does is it allows us to provide access to our channel globally to GUSS and to distribute the product in an efficient way.”

Future plans

Le Vely says John Deere plans to expand GUSS into additional global markets, building on its presence in Europe, Australia and North America. He identifies fast-growing regions such as South America and Latin America as priorities for future expansion.

An example, Le Vely says, is in citrus. While GUSS currently runs in the largest citrus grower in the U.S., with year-round production in Brazil, he sees a strong opportunity for expansion within that country.

Deere Launches Digital Repair Tool Amid Right to Repair Debate /news/manufacturing/deere-launches-digital-repair-tool-amid-right-to-repair-debate/ Fri, 15 Aug 2025 16:08:11 +0000 /?p=32743 Deere has introduced a new digital platform designed to give equipment owners more control over maintaining and repairing their machines. The announcement comes as the company continues to respond to growing scrutiny over its approach to the Right to Repair movement.

The new platform, called Operations Center PRO Service, offers expanded self-repair capabilities across John Deere’s agriculture, turf, construction and forestry equipment lines. Among its features are machine diagnostics, access to repair manuals, software reprogramming for electronic controllers, and step-by-step troubleshooting guides.

“Whether you want the support of your professionally trained and trusted John Deere dealer, to work with another local service provider, or to fix your machine yourself, we’ve created additional capabilities for you to choose the option that best fits your needs,” said Denver Caldwell, vice president of aftermarket and customer support.

The tool will be available through an annual license starting at $195 per machine. It replaces the company’s previous platform, Customer Service ADVISOR™, which will be phased out over the next year.

Equipment owners and independent service providers can access the platform through Deere’s Operations Center, using the machine’s serial number to register equipment. While some features require a data link connection and are limited at launch, Deere said more updates will be added over time.

Operations Center PRO Service is available to customers in the U.S. and Canada.

Deere Reports Q3 Earnings /news/manufacturing/deere-reports-q3-earnings-2/ Fri, 15 Aug 2025 15:07:32 +0000 /?p=32726 Deere & Company has released its financial results for the third quarter of 2025, revealing a decline in net income and sales compared to the previous year. The company reported a net income of $1.289 billion for the third quarter of 2025, equating to $4.75 per share. This figure marks a significant drop from the $1.734 billion, or $6.29 per share, reported in the same quarter of 2024. The company’s worldwide net sales and revenues decreased by 9% to $12.018 billion, with net sales specifically at $10.357 billion. These results fell short of the market expectations set at an EPS of $4.62 and revenue of $10.25 billion.

The decline in sales and income can be attributed to several factors, including lower shipment volumes and unfavorable price realization in the Production & Precision Agriculture segment, which saw a 16% decrease in net sales.

Deere Acquires Sentera /news/deere-acquires-sentera/ Wed, 04 Jun 2025 16:47:11 +0000 /?p=32088 John Deere recently acquired Minnesota-based Sentera, a provider of remote imagery solutions for agriculture.

The acquisition will advance the capabilities of John Deere’s existing technology offerings, providing farmers and ag service providers with a more comprehensive set of tools to generate and use data to make decisions.

Sentera’s cameras are compatible with most major drone platforms and enable farmers and crop scouts to quickly and efficiently capture high-resolution data at scale.

Their capabilities and FieldAgent software tools help farmers and agronomists assess plant-level health, identify stressors, and take action. In addition, Smartscript Weeds, a customized herbicide prescription, can be delivered to sprayers with individual nozzle control.

Drones equipped with Sentera technology fly over fields at high speeds and generate high-resolution images.

These images are processed with Sentera’s FieldAgent application to identify the location of specific weeds and generate a weed map.

This map becomes a targeted prescription for how much product a farmer needs to load into their sprayer.

Once the prescription is generated, it can be wirelessly sent to compatible equipment through the John Deere Operations Center.

The same process can be used in a field to assess crop stand uniformity, disease pressure and pests.

Sentera will continue to supply cameras directly to drone manufacturers for integration into their products, as well as sell to farmers, agronomists, ag retailers and other users.

The John Deere Operations Center will continue to be open for other drone imagery providers for integration as well.
