Convention101: Tips You Need to Know for the Fall Convention /news/convention101-tips-you-need-to-kow-for-the-fall-convention/ Thu, 17 Aug 2023 15:45:41 +0000 /?p=24629 Our annual Marketing & Distribution Convention has many layers. There’s the obvious: the speakers, tours, and networking events. And, there’s the less obvious: the meetings you set up independently, committee meetings specific to an industry group—the ones you want to attend, but don’t know if it’s open to you—and the event your spouse/guest wants to attend, but, can she or he?

We get those questions every year—from long-time attendees and new attendees alike. We want to address a few here, but more importantly, we want to encourage you to ask. Seriously, we’re waiting for questions. We love questions.

The fall convention is unique in that it is two conventions held at the same time. There is overlap in the schedules between our Association meeting and the gathering of members from the Equipment Marketing & Distribution Association (EMDA). The overlap is designed to offer opportunities for manufacturers to meet wholesalers and independent reps, and for the professionals on the distribution side to find new product lines.

We strive to make it clear when a session is specific to this Association and when it is a joint session with EMDA. The convention is a friendly gathering, so when it’s not clear, simply ask.
(Important Note: Every registrant and every registered spouse guest gets a name badge. Consider it your ticket to just about everything. If, for example, you want to go to the Technology Council meeting, the name badge is all you need. Or, if your guest wants to join a session, the name badge serves as admission.)

We encourage every registrant to reach out to distributors you’d like to meet while in Kansas City. Start with registration lists and identify our marketing members (FarmEquip.org/FallMeetingAttendees) and EMDA’s attendees (EMDA.net). Be sure to check the Association website’s “Resources” tab for a distribution partners’ directory and schedule in-person meetings. Don’t delay – convention schedules fill quickly.

Check out page 6 and 7 to learn more about speakers Christoper Carter, Richard Brock, Brandon Dempsey, and more. You will also find info on our breakout sessions, technology panel, farewell outing and underground cave tour to name a few.

Important Deadline: Register by Sept. 11, 2023 to save $100.

Circling back to our earlier point, we’re available—and eager—to answer your questions. Call us at (314) 878-2304. Feel free to research (and register!) at Meeting.FarmEquip.org.

Beyond Speaker Sessions: Fun Things to Do in KC /news/beyond-speaker-sessions-fun-things-to-do-in-kc/ Thu, 17 Aug 2023 14:45:58 +0000 /?p=24604 As is our tradition at our annual Association meetings, we have set aside time to include planned activities for executives and guests to learn, explore and play in Kansas City.

Farewell Event: Howl at the Moon
Cap off a successful meeting at the farewell outing. This year’s event will bring members to the Power and Light District, one of the most popular attractions in Kansas City.

Howl at the Moon Dueling Piano Bar

Join your colleagues and friends for one final networking event at Howl at the Moon. This venue features high-energy dueling pianos and provides great entertainment for guests of all ages, building up the evening from light dinner music to our full band. Whether you want to sing along to Lynyrd Skynyrd or get down to Daft Punk, the live band will rock it. Food will be provided, but attendees will be responsible for their own bar tab.
If you have questions about the farewell event or want to add it to your registration, call the Association at (314) 878-2304. If you haven’t yet registered for the fall meeting you can add the farewell event when you do.

Subtropolis Tour: World’s Largest Underground Business Complex

Subropolis: World’s Largest
Underground Business Conplex

While at the Fall Convention, members can explore the history of SubTropolis — a cave created through the mining of a 270-million-year-old limestone deposit. In the mining process, limestone is removed by the room and pillar method, leaving 25-foot square pillars that are on 65-foot centers and 40 feet apart.

The pillars’ even spacing, concrete flooring and 16-foot high, smooth ceilings make build-to-suit facilities time and cost efficient for tenants. SubTropolis is completely dry, brightly lit, with miles of wide, paved streets accessed at street level.

Members will travel by bus to SubTropolis where we will learn more about the development and ita history before taking a guided bus tour. Additional fee applies. For more information about the private FEMA tour go to FarmEquip.org/SubTropolisCaveTour.

Power & Light District: KC’s Hottest Entertainment Hub

Home to more than 50 bars, restaurants and shops, the Kansas City Power Light District is an eight-block entertainment hub unlike any other in town. KC Live!—the district’s covered outdoor courtyard—hosts more than 150 free events each year where fans gather to cheer on their favorite sports.

Be sure to explore the Power and Light District in Kansas City
on a night full of lights.
