Two parts of the five part braking standards series, ANSI/ASABE S648, Agricultural Field Equipment Braking, are being revised. No technical changes are being proposed.

Part 4: Requirements for Towed Vehicles: minor revisions to specific clauses to eliminate conflicts between those clauses and other information in the standard. Draft is ready for final approval.

Part 5: Requirements for the Interface between Towing Vehicle and Towed Vehicles: minor revision to clarify compatibility information for low speed/high mass towed vehicles and to match simulator performance with EU Regulations. Another committee ballot must take place.

Front or Towed Implements

ISO/CD 5674 Tractors and machinery for agriculture and forestry—Guards for power take-off (PTO) drive-shafts —Strength and wear tests and acceptance criteria, approved with comments from the U.S. Resolutions will be discussed at the Sept. 15 plenary session.

ISO 5675:2021—Agricultural tractors and machinery—General purpose quick-action hydraulic couplers. Published.

ISO 10448:2021, Agricultural tractors—Hydraulic pressure for implements. Published.

X24347, Agricultural tractors—Mechanical connections between towed and towing vehicles—Dimensions of ball-type coupling device (80 mm). U.S. will be adopting ISO 24347: 2019 version identically.

Tillage Equipment

ISOS 4254-17, Agricultural machinery—Safety—Part 17: Root crop harvesters. Expecting publication soon.

Anhydrous Ammonia

X620.1, Safety for Anhydrous Ammonia Application Equipment. Draft under ballot. Due date is Aug. 30.

Rotary Mowers

Association Partners with ASABE to Provide Resources, Advocacy for Members /uncategorized/association-partners-with-asabe-to-provide-resources-advocacy-for-members/ Tue, 01 Oct 2019 20:12:06 +0000 /?p=8315 The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers this summer published its annual compilation of industry standards.

The resource contains a wealth of information—275 current ASAE/ASABE standards, engineering practices, and data. The standards apply to agricultural equipment and systems, irrigation and drainage, structures, turf and landscape equipment, food engineering, and electric power applications.

The resource contains a wealth of information—275 current ASAE/ASABE standards, engineering practices, and data. The standards apply to agricultural equipment and systems, irrigation and drainage, structures, turf and landscape equipment, food engineering, and electric power applications.

More than half of the standards are specific to farm equipment.
Manufacturing members of this Association who are not members of ASABE are entitled to access that information through our Association. You can request a CD or USB card by contacting Rachel Boehm at Rachel@FarmEquip.org. Or, call (314) 878-2304.

If non-members purchased the information from ASABE, it would cost $650. Individual standards cost $65, and often, one piece of equipment integrates parts from several standards.

“The Association is proud of its partnership with ASABE,” said Executive Vice President Vernon Schmidt. “ASABE is an educational and scientific organization dedicated to the advancement of engineering as it applies to agriculture, and we are, among other things, a resource and advocate for the manufacturers of farm implements. Their expertise, combined with our laser focus, allows us to bring members information vital to their success.”
To expand its advocacy on behalf of members, the Association recently brought John Fisher on board as a consultant focused on safety standards affecting the shortline industry.

Fisher, who recently retired as vice president of technical affairs for Alamo Group, will commit a portion of his time to this Association. Fisher has long been active in several standards that affect members, including the recent braking standard revision, and a lighting and marking standard.

His work on our behalf assures that the interests of implement makers will be part of the conversation when multi-national tractor makers are pushing to revise standards to comply with European specifications, for example.
You will see Fisher at the Marketing & Distribution Convention next month, as well as Scott Cedarquist and Carla VanGilder, both of whom represent ASABE. They will be key participants in conversations in our product council meetings, which focus on product standards, among other things.

Regular readers of Shortliner know that these pages are often dedicated to updating members on the work underway at ASABE to revise or draft new standards. Those stories are stored in our archives, and through a basic word search at FarmEquip.org, you can find the most recent news on the society’s work. You will find developments on the pintle hitch on towed implements, for example, and a safety standard for tractor-mounted, boom-type post hole diggers.
If you have questions for ASABE and industry standards, the Association wants to hear them. We will work with Fisher, Cedarquist, and VanGilder to bring you information through our publications, convention sessions, or even one-on-one conversations. We understand that access to these resources is essential to your success.
To share your standards questions, call (314) 878-2304, or send an email to Kristi Ruggles at Kristi@FarmEquip.org.
