A majority of the affected production sites and parts operations have resumed operational activities. The remainder of the sites are expected to begin operations during the balance of this week, such that all factories and parts operations are operating by the end of this week.

The Company also reported that there had been data exfiltration as a result of the ransomware cyber attack. While the Company does not have retail operations, and therefore no privacy-protected consumer data, the Company is still evaluating the scope and consequences of the data loss.

Although damage from the ransomware cyber attack could require more in-depth, and lengthy, remediation and recovery than is currently expected, the Company currently expects to be able to mitigate the production loss from the ransomware cyber attack by increasing production over the remainder of 2022.

JBS Paid $11 Million Ransom in Cyberattack /news/jbs-paid-11-million-ransom-in-cyberattack/ Tue, 15 Jun 2021 15:57:28 +0000 /?p=14295 Meat processor JBS paid $11 million in bitcoin to ransomware extortionists to prevent further disruption by the hackers, the company said.

“At the time of payment, the vast majority of the company’s facilities were operational,” a statement said, adding that the company had made the payment “to mitigate any unforeseen issues related to the attack and ensure no data was exfiltrated.”

JBS reports that the investigation into the attack continues. The hackers appear to have not gotten away with company, customer or employee data. The White House has linked Russia to the episode.

JBS is a Brazilian-based meat supplier with operations in the U.S., Australia, Canada, Europe, Mexico, New Zealand and Britain.

Cyber Attacks Rise by 156 Percent in Manufacturing /uncategorized/cyber-attacks-rise-by-156-percent-in-manufacturing/ Tue, 16 Jun 2020 18:16:25 +0000 /?p=10767 Ransomware attacks increased by 25 percent in the first quarter of 2020 compared to the final quarter of 2019, according to Beazley Breach Response (BBR) Services, an arm of cyber insurer Beazley.

Manufacturing was hit the hardest, seeing a 156 percent quarter-on-quarter increase. While vendors and managed service providers were targets before, BBR found ransomware attacks targeting service providers for financial institutions and healthcare organizations spiked.

In the current quarter, cybercriminals are ramping up phishing schemes and other tactics that seize on “the opportunities presented by the pandemic,” the report says. Common strategies include COVID-19-related information, repurposed scam templates to include COVID-19, and spoofs of leading healthcare organizations, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Cybercriminals are “preying on people’s heightened anxiety during this pandemic,” said Katherine Keefe, head of BBR Services. Newly-remote workers “may have weaker IT security than corporate networks typically provide.”

It’s a perfect storm for malicious actors.

This month, REvil ransomware operators started auctioning off data stolen from an agricultural producer, a food distributor, and a law firm representing high-profile celebrities. In March, the ransomware DopplePaymer encrypted and then published data from a manufacturer for Tesla, Boeing and Lockheed Martin.
