Firestone Ag Showcases the Science Behind Farm Tires to Nuffield Scholars

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 19, 2017) – Firestone Ag, a business owned and operated by Bridgestone Americas, Inc. (Bridgestone), is committed to sharing its expertise with the brightest minds in farming around the globe. Recently, Firestone Ag hosted 10 Nuffield International Farming Scholars at the Firestone Ag tire plant in Des Moines, Iowa, providing a glimpse inside the tire manufacturing process. The Nuffield Scholars represented a diverse set of countries and regions, including the United Kingdom, Brazil, the Netherlands, Australia, Ireland and New Zealand. Nuffield International Farming Scholars board members Bill Northey, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, and Ed Kee, former Delaware Secretary of Agriculture, also were in attendance.

“It’s an honor to host the Nuffield Scholars and board members,” said Tony Orlando, president, Firestone Ag, Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations. “Firestone Ag is steeped in a rich history of building industry-leading ag tires and helping our customers to be better farmers.”

The Nuffield Scholars spent the day at the Firestone plant learning about the rich history of Firestone Ag and its best-in-class tire manufacturing process. From the acquisition of the rubber itself, to the skill and craftsmanship that goes into each tire, the scholars were shown the commitment to quality at every step in the Firestone Ag tire manufacturing process.

“The people at Firestone Ag explained the science and principles related to the interactions between tire design, performance, power and optimizing field work,” said one Nuffield Scholar. “This will be very helpful when I get home."
