Planting Progress: 2026 Corn Condition Ratings Released

On Monday, the USDA published the ninth  of the 2026 growing season. Here’s a look at the latest progress and condition numbers.

Corn

As of May 31, 93% of this year’s corn crop has been planted in the , according to the USDA. That’s just ahead of the five-year average of 92%.

The USDA said 76% of the nation’s corn crop has emerged, which is ahead ofthe five-year average of 74%.

It was the first week that the department reported corn conditions across top states. The condition of the nation’s corn crop for the week that ended May 31 was as follows:

  • Good/excellent: 67%
  • Fair: 28%
  • Poor/very poor: 5%

Soybeans

As of May 31, 87% of the soybean crop in the nation’s  was in the ground. That’s ahead of the five-year average of 80%.

The USDA said 65% of the nation’s soybean crop has emerged, which is ahead of the five-year average of 57%.

It was the first week that the department reported soybean conditions across top states. The condition of the nation’s soybean crop for the week that ended May 31 was as follows:

  • Good/excellent: 66%
  • Fair: 29%
  • Poor/very poor: 5%

Winter Wheat

The USDA reported 87% of the winter wheat crop across the  has headed as of May 31. The five-year average is 79%.

It was the first week the department reported winter wheat harvest progress. As of May 31, 5% of the nation’s winter wheat crop across five of the top 18 states had been harvested,ahead of the five-year average of 3%

Winter wheat condition for the week that ended May 31 was as follows:

  • Good/excellent: 26%
  • Fair: 30%
  • Poor/very poor: 44%

Spring Wheat

In the , 94% of the spring wheat crop has been planted, ahead ofthe five-year average of 89%.

Across the six states, 72% of the spring wheat crop had emerged as of May 31, ahead of the five-year average of 67%.

It was the first week that the department reported spring wheat conditions across top states. The condition of the nation’s spring wheat crop for the week that ended May 31 was as follows:

  • Good/excellent: 47%
  • Fair: 47%
  • Poor/very poor: 6%

Oats

Across the , 89% of the crop has emerged, according to the USDA. That’s ahead of the five-year average of 83%.

Thirty percent of the oat crop has headed, USDA reported, just ahead ofthe five-year average of 29%.

The oat crop condition for the week that ended May 31 was as follows:

  • Good/excellent: 44%
  • Fair: 35%
  • Poor/very poor: 21%
