China’s Return to U.S. Poultry Creates Export Boon

The USA Poultry and Egg Export Council reported a breakout 2020 in spite of the pandemic because China reopened its market to the products in late 2019.

The council’s Greg Tyler said China in 2020 quickly became a top two market for U.S. poultry alongside Mexico.

ā€œAnd it continues to grow. We’ve had a phenomenal amount of success getting back into the Chinese market,ā€ he said.

China is one of the few places on Earth that imports chicken paws.

ā€œChicken paws normally would go to the rendering plant here in the U.S. at about $0.02 per pound. But the Chinese will pay $0.80 on up.ā€

He says there are other populations that consume chicken paws, but China is by far the biggest customer.
